My favorite move theater in Oakland! On Wednesdays they have karma cinema — it’s pay what you can and 20% of the proceeds go to a local nonprofit. So many great community events! I love the language exchange on Sunday nights as well as trivia on Thursday, and Bingo on Tuesday and Sundays! Amazing food and a radical third space. Just be aware to bring physical card or cash as they don’t accept tap pay! The best free parking is on 25th St. and along North Gate Ave. From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk from the theater and I can always find a spot there I highly recommend the kimchi fried rice with tofu! It’s so good and super filling. I also love the steak frites but just know the kitchen can only make it well done so if you like your steak rare/medium rare I recommend ordering one of their other great food options. Some people can be a bit confused by the bathrooms. The first door on the left is urinals and 1 stall and the second door is all stalls. When you walk in the first register is the box office. They can help you with ticket. If you know you want food, drink, and tickets you can hop straight into the middle line that snakes around the tables following the movie real on the floor.

March 2026 update: We went back last night for the Karaoke and had a blast! It was such a great vibe. Everyone just became fast friends. A group of young men did "I want it that way" by Backstreet Boys. They were just super adorable! The food and drinks are are awesome. The staff was friendly and even hang out there after their shift. That tells you how magical the New Parkway is. ########## I have heard of this place for decades. One thing really stood out was how friendly all the staff was. I went there to see Good Boy. After the movie, I found 2 theater Good Boys in the cafe. I am going back so I can pet them again. I also love all the vegan options on the menu.

One of the absolute gems of Oakland and East Bay. Coming here is not just for the movie but for the community experience. - They show unique films: mainstream, old classics, camp, documentaries that you won't be able to find elsewhere. - seats that are couches, recliners, love seats, bean bags, etc. - Lots of free community events: karaoke, board games, crafts, trivia/bingo, etc. Or unique events like Saturday morning cartoons, World Cup games, Oscars, etc. - full kitchen on site. Not just popcorn with a huge self-seasoning counter, but also full course meals and many drinks, all delivered right to your seat. - tax and tip are included in all prices. What you see is what you pay. - they don't accept Tap to Pay, so bring a physical card or cash. - parking is hard to find but you have options within a 4 block radius. Busses stop right near it. - friendly staff and management!

Attended Trivia Night at The New Parkway Theater. Seating is limited, so arrive early. Friendly folks all around, good questions on a wide array of topics, and an engaging MC make for a fun contest. The pizzas, pepperoni and cheese, were both good with crispy sourdough crust, savory sauce, and generous quantities of meat and cheese. Ask to taste the kombucha before you choose one, everyone was happy with their beers. Great cloth napkins, nice plates, good flatware, and nice glassware make you feel at home. Emphasis by the MC on asking wide ranging, culturally inclusive questions and creating community between strangers makes this a very special place and asset to the area. Great eclectic film selection is a rare find, too!

Went recently for a friend's night out. Terrific service and the food is A+ quality and taste! Got the fried chicken plate. 1 piece of tender well seasoned chicken with crispy coating and skin that was perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes needed NO extra salt paired delightfully with collard greens that somehow melt in your mouth while having just enough crunch. My friends got the mushroom pizza that honestly is one of the better pizzas in the area ( I know!) And the portion is enough for 3. Another friend got the kimchi rice bowl. The rice was soft and well seasoned, egg was ready for a perfect pierce for the yolk. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and chill. The whole place gives house party vibes where you want to come back, and we will!
