Nicole Beutler 4 months agoThis place really lost what made it special. Actively at a showing that hasn’t even started and the theater is dirty from the showing prior. Not a single server in site, and the QR code defeats the no cell phones policy that made me pick Alamo over other cinemas. Completely disappointed and my movie hasn’t even started. Guess this is the final showing I will be attending since this is basically an AMC vibe now.
Rox Rivadeneira 2 months agoWe went during the “baby showing”. The volume was not lowered as advertised on their website, maybe it was only our showing that was not properly set up. The food: terrible, please change your oil or deep clean the cooking equipment 🤮 fries and tenders were not edible, even the napkins we used to clean our hands smelled like degraded rancid oil.
Nick G 3 months agoI still remember my first time going to Alamo Drafthouse on Anderson Ln with my brother over 20 years ago. It was a completely different kind of movie experience—something special that you couldn’t really find anywhere else. That’s what made me a fan and someone who recommended it to others for years. There are still some positives today—the movie experience itself is solid, and the seats are definitely more comfortable. Credit where it’s due there. But overall, it feels like the Alamo that built its reputation is no longer the same. Some changes may make sense operationally, but as a customer, the experience feels almost unrecognizable. The food is a big part of that. It used to feel unique, and now it feels like a completely different (and more generic) menu. Losing staples like the Tex-Mex queso in favor of alternatives that don’t really match that identity is a tough miss. Even things like the milkshakes feel more basic than they used to. The shift to ordering from your phone also takes away a lot of the personal touch that made Alamo stand out. It’s not necessarily worse—it’s just not what made Alamo feel like Alamo. At this point, it feels like it’s become just another theater. Some improvements, some steps backward—but overall, it’s not the same place I remember, and not something I go out of my way to recommend anymore. I genuinely hope they find a way to bring back more of what originally made the experience special.
Mitchell Blass 5 months agoI loved Alamo Drafthouse and still want to love it but I will never go again because the QR ordering breaks immersion. A company built on service and putting your phone away (and even had promos before the movie explaining this) broke their one rule and this company will go out of business if they do not revert. Alamo do not respond saying "please email us and give us your feedback as it is important to us" unless you give clear instruction on how this issue is going to be resolved. There has to be answers on how to revert back to what makes Alamo great.
Sandra Ezell 3 months agoAs others noted, all ordering is now done through the app. Scanning the QR code in a dark theater doesn't work. Food didn't come out until after an hour. There were only 8 people in the theater, so definitely not slammed with orders. Staff didn't respond to pressing the button for help. Staff didn't respond to requesting help in the app. I left the theater to inquire while food was still missing. Both myself and another guest were at the counter inquiring about obtaining food/drink. The man wanted to order a drink and mentioned no one was coming to his seat, he then asked if it would be brought to his seat if he orders at the ticket counter. Apparently, same sort of issues going on for him too. The manager was very kind and responsive, just hate that she most likely has to de-escalate customers multiple times a day. Customers are missing the old customer centric service. Decreased the customer experience while increasing the tip fee to 18% and making it standard to all purchases. There is absolutely no incentive for the wait staff to put effort to gain a tip, they are getting 18% no matter what service they provide. If I recall, tips used to be based on performance and at the discretion of the customer. Sad.
