This has been my substitute to Alamo Drafthouse (AD) since AD introduced QR ordering and people have to use their phones DURING the movie. This charming theatre is a great alternative albeit not perfect! Pros: Beautiful Art Deco architecture, a time capsule of another time, theatre programming is great - they play lots of great indie and classic films, friendly & welcoming, movie loving staff, great popcorn and they stock my favorite theatre candy - Milk Duds! The ticket prices are affordable too with great midweek deals. The patrons who frequent this theatre are more of the movie buff / cinephile type so lots of respectful, passionate moviegoers which feels like a community. Cons: It’s a very old building so there are some drawbacks. Poor bathroom situation. The downstairs Men’s bathroom has one toilet and only a shower curtain dividing you from the person washing their hands 3 feet away. The upstairs Men’s bathroom has one stall, but that’s one stall being shared among 3 screens of moviegoers so it’s not ideal if nature calls. The marquee board outside seems to be falling apart (see picture). The Upstairs screens are tiny and you can clearly hear audio from the main screen downstairs while you’re enjoying your movie in Screens 2 or 3. I sat in Screen 3 and the chairs are very broken in and uncomfortable where you sit right through the cushion and into the metal frame of the theatre seat.

Intimate and unique place to see a film. They have snacks and drink in the lobby including hot tea which has become a tradition with friends. Park on the street near by without a meter or the CVS parking lot.

I love the Mayan. It's such a fun piece of Denver history and I'm so glad it's still around. I will be back soon!

Amazing looking theater inside and out. Neighborhood seems a little dodgy, but that's not on the business. Free water and coffee on the inside. I didn't try the popcorn, but it smelled good. They got a bar upstairs, too. The actual main theater is amazing. I was looking at the layout more than the screen while the movie was going.

Been meaning to come to the Mayan theater for a long time as it is one of the oldest theaters in Denver and right in the baker hood! As expected, it is nothing short of spectacular and beautifully decorated in the May tradition. We were in theater three and it is incredibly well seated with steep stairs all the way to the top! I absolutely love the decoration and it’s definitely an old-school theater with an adorable bar in a dream in the upper level that has lovely somewhat pricier drinks, but seems to be worth it! It’s definitely an experience and if you’re in the Denver area!
