Rocco a month agoRecently decided to start going to the movies again (I know so 2008). The only theater playing the movie I want the Bourse. Cool little local theater. Had the whole theater to myself and it was super clean. Basic amenities and snacks and staff was great. Would recommend for low key calm vibe.
Aram Lecis 4 months agoAmazing space for seeing art films, very well maintained and loved spot. It's a little older and might be due for some upgrades inside the auditoriums, but the presentation is dialed in. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and there is a definitely air of love for film here. Worth visiting!
Matthew Kocourek 5 months agoWhen I entered the theater, I noticed a water stain and a chair marked out of order, so I wasn't expecting much of the actual quality of the movie we were about to see. But then the curtains pulled back, and back, and back--and a massive screen was revealed. The sound quality was good as well. Would definitely consider joining if we lived there!
Jill Brooke a month agoI’m glad they fixed the escalator. Great programming and reasonable-sized popcorn & sodas! But it’s the fabulous programming by the Philly Film Society that brings me here.
Krystique 5 months agoGood evening Google Family. I visited the Film Society Bourse for the first time today. I arrived in a Lyft and I am going to view The Secret Agent. When I opened the door I saw that the theater had an escalator and steps. The way to access this theater was by the stairs or the escalator. It reminds me of the theater located at 1600 N. Broad Street, the AMC Broadstreet 7 and also the AMC Dine-In Fashion District 8 located at 1001 Market Street, where you need to use the stairs or the escalator to access the movie auditoriums. When I arrived downstairs, I immediately asked for Shawn. I had called today before arriving, asking if the place was going to be open. I was thinking maybe not, because of the impending snowstorm. Shawn informed me that the movie location was open today. It is closed Sunday and Monday because of the snowstorm that is on the way. Shawn, Bug and David proved to be very nice, friendly and professional. They answered all of my questions about the movie. I was interested in seeing two movies today at the same place, but I would not have left until 10 pm and that is much too late for me. I want to be home at a civilized hour. One day for sure I will view two movies in one location. My movie ticket purchase was $9.00, receiving my Senior discount. I arrived here about 2 hours early and so I have two hours to kill. I wanted to get more money at an ATM so I did that and then I looked around for someplace to eat. I walked around and Alas there are not many places to eat around here. A few places that I stopped in were closed and the one place that I saw was a pizza place. I ended up in Jeweler's Row and I was saying to myself, I needed and wanted some food, not jewelry. Finally I decided to go back to the pizza place. It was called Maya's Pizza and Grill. When I arrived, there was only one person in the restaurant. At first I thought that they were closed but then the door opened. The one person in the restaurant was a police officer. When I looked at the menu, I saw pizza and salads and then I saw that they had a grilled salmon platter. I decided to order that. It came with fries and cole slaw. I did not want the fries, only the salmon and the cole slaw. My food was ready quickly and so I ate. I noticed that I had fries when I clearly said no fries. I decided that they would not go to waste, so I decided to give them to a homeless person or the birds. After I ate, I talked with Antonio, who worked here. He was asking me where I was from. I told him West Philadelphia. Then I made my way back to the Film Society Bourse. Father God allowed me to find someone to give the fries to and I did. The gentleman was so grateful and I was so happy that I could help someone. When I arrived at the Bourse, I was still early. So I went and sat down on a bench while waiting. Then I went into Auditorium 5 and placed my belongings on the seats all the way in the back, since there was no assigned seating. I made my way to the rest room where it was clean and neat with soap and soap dispenser and paper towels were available for use, along with a dryer. I counted about 5 stalls in the rest room. Then I went to the concession stand to purchase hot chocolate and a small popcorn. My total was $9.23. Then I made my way back to my seat. I couldn't believe all of the people who came in to view the movie. Thank goodness, I arrived early. I was the first one in the movie. People were still coming as the movie progressed. There were no high back recliner seats available. So I was facing another uncomfortable movie experience. I enjoy patronizing movies to recline my seat, put up my feet and enjoy eating my popcorn. Its the ultimate movie experience which I am most fond of. The Secret Agent was a pretty good movie, which I would have enjoyed more and I would have given this review 5 stars instead of 4. When the movie was over, I called a Lyft and then I was off and out of here. A good experience here and it could have been a lot better if there had been recliners. I am hoping that the theater will install reclined seats in the future.
