Avery Grant 4 months agoGreat movies but they charged a $7 tip on a $6 popcorn and two tickets. Why? We gave her the card and she swiped it we didnt even get to sign a screen or make choices. Your employee either made a mistake or they’re stealing from people and hoping they’re too passive to sat somehing.
Krystique 5 months agoGood evening Google Family. I visited for the first time today. I called to make sure that they were open since they were closed Sunday and Monday because of the recent snowstorm. They were open and I talked with Tom, the manager. Tom was very nice. I arrived in a Lyft way ahead of time. I had decided to see "Klute" with Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland. Showtimes were 4pm or 7pm. I decided on 7pm simply because I did not want to rush today. I wanted to go to the ATM and CVS to reload my prepaid card and get a bite to eat before the movie. It was good to be out today after having cabin fever for two days straight. I am not used to being in the house that long. The side streets are atrocious and so many people have not dug out their cars. The main streets are good, but you have to get there after passing the bad condition side streets. I had to call Tom to find out how to access the movie theater. When I arrived from my Lyft, I see the sign Film Society East and the parking garage but no entrance to the movie. I kept walking back and forth. Finally I decided to call Tom to ask how to get to the movie. He stayed on the phone with me to guide me to the movie. He told me to walk to where it said elevator but not to get on the elevator. I am walking and following the way he told me. I was saying to Tom, I hope no one hits me over the head while I was walking. I did not feel safe at all walking. Thank God it is a lighted area here, but alas I still did not feel safe. I was so thankful when I saw the sign, Film Society East. I told Tom thank you and I hung up. I opened the door and there was the box office. Kate was the young lady at the door. She had on a mask and she was asking me something and I could not understand what she was saying since her mouth was covered. I have a hard time understanding people when their mouth is covered by a mask, since I am hearing impaired. She uncovered her mask and repeated her question. I had answered already what she asked me. I had said 1 ticket for Klute. She said the microphone is not good and she did not understand me. That makes two of us, since I did not understand her either. She informed me that my ticket was $14.00. I was aghast!! I asked her why was the ticket so high? She could not answer. She said the tickets on Monday are $6.00 but they were closed yesterday. And I forgot to ask for a senior discount. That was my fault. I am wondering now if that would have made a difference, a lower fee. I paid by cash and Kate handed me my ticket. I went in and I asked for Tom. Tom was in the management office. I talked with Chris, an employee and he was very very nice. I explained that I was early and that I had errands to run and that I would be back. I left and went to the ATM and then to CVS. I was so thankful that my ATM and the CVS were in close proximity to each other. After my successful transaction at the CVS to reload my card, then I looked for a place to eat. I decided on Campo's which was located at 214 Market Street. I did not want to venture too far from where the movie was. After all I was walking. Campo's proved to be an excellent choice. I ate and then I walked back to the movie theater. I showed Kate my ticket and then I went in. I stopped by the Concessions stand and spoke with Chris again. I asked for the assisted listening device and he said they no longer had them. He said they used to have them and now they do not. I am hoping that the owner sees this review and brings the assisted listening devices back. They are most helpful. I am not the only hearing impaired person in the world and they are helpful to other persons as well. I visited the rest room and it was in good condition. It was nice and clean, stocked with paper towels, soap and a soap dispenser. The auditorium is large and I made a video of it which I am including here. I made myself comfortable. No I did not purchase any snacks since I had already eaten before I came here. Also after playing an outrageous fee of $14.00, I decided not to purchase any food. Film Society East had gotten enough of my money.
Sergio Herrera a year agoThis theater hosted a meetup for film publications. They were fantastic hosts and the screening they presented went off without a hitch. The event was sold out and they accommodated the big crowd well.
Sabrina 2 months agoAs a recent Philly resident this is one of my favorite theaters and I think the best PFS location. The staff are extremely friendly! I have nothing negative to say about this theatre -- one of the best places to see a movie in the city
David Greenberg 6 months agoI hadn’t been there for a while and it seems like they have done some renovations. I was genuinely taken with how nice the theater is - big screen, good seats. Being there makes you feel good about going to a movie.
