First time at an AMC theater and this was NOT the experience I paid for! In the area for some time off and decided to stop in here to see the Michael movie. First issue was at the concession stand, i wanted to grab popcorn and a drink and noticed that there was no popcorn in the bins just premade bags on a shelf behind the cashier. I thought maybe they were about to make a fresh batch and took the rest out for a rush but no. Not only did they not ask me if I wanted butter or not, but when I did the supervisor informed me they don't ask because the oil they use has butter in it and "that's what makes them yellow" so she added some from a squeeze bottle and we headed to the theater.... It was HOT!! It got up to about 95 degrees today but at no point did anyone mention to me or anyone else that bought tickets that the AC in theater 14 was not working. Everyone was complaining but also didn't want to miss any of the movie we just paid to see. Then on top of that I start to eat the popcorn and it isn't fresh, had that kinda gummy texture that sticks to your teeth. So we sweated through the movie and got the hell outta there. On the way out I noticed a box fan in the outside ticket booth so somebody knew it was hot. AMC, do better!! Also why do yall have all of the lights on during up until the movie starts? Dim them or something 🤣

4/30/26 - went to see devil wears prada 2 last night and I must say this theater doesn't feel like it used to. Our showing was at 8:30pm. The only person that seemed okay /happy to be there was the person that scanned our tickets. There was no one in line for concessions but the cashier did not seem pleased to be there. My husband went to the bar and took over 20 mins for him to get a whiskey ginger. The person working was clearly new or new in that position and had no idea what kind liquors they needed to make certain drinks. He was trying to make a long island when we first got there and had to buzz for help because he didn't know what triple sec was/or where. I felt pretty bad for the guy. The women's bathroom on our side of the move theater was closed the whole time. So I had to go to the other side. Thankfully I only had to use it prior and after the movie. Theater 6, row f, seats 8, and 10 were nasty and worn down. We spent at least 100 with tickets, popcorn, drinks, and alcohol drinks. I was not impressed at all. This was a Thursday night but the theater was pretty dead, kind of sad how things are going with this theater. I don't think I will ever do digital as well, the screen didn't look as clear. Hopefully they can upgrade the other theaters and have the right employees working at certain stations to make things much smoother.

We all know the cost at the concession digs into your wallet so I'm not going to talk about that. What I am going to talk about is my grandson happiness at seeing the MICHAEL movie. My grandson waited patiently for this movie to hit the theaters in Virginia Beach. Opening night I had to break his heart because we were out of town in Charlotte, NC for a MS walk. I told him I would take him when we get back home. I'm glad we had to wait. Today was that day. There was no lines (2:15pm). The theater was quiet and clean. The staff was great. We had small hiccup with the tickets that we bought off the ADP employee discount third party site called Lifesmart. But, AMC did honor the tickets My grandson and I shared a moment across generations. We both were sitting there watching and singing. Michael truly made music for the world and across genres.

Today we went to the movies, and after we left the theater and were already walking away, I suddenly realized I had forgotten my phone. I hurried back to the auditorium, worried it might be lost. When I walked inside to look for it, an employee named Jayon was there, already cleaning up. The theater was a mess and it was extremely hot inside, but he still greeted me kindly and respectfully right away. Even though he clearly didn’t feel well and was working in very uncomfortable conditions, Jayon stopped what he was doing to help me look for my phone. He checked between the seats, under the chairs, and around the aisles with me. The whole time he was polite, soft-spoken, and very well-mannered. I asked him if he needed some water or if he wanted me to get a manager because he looked like he didn’t feel good, and he still said, “No ma’am, I’m okay. I just want to make sure it’s nice and clean in here so everyone has a great experience and feels comfortable.” Seeing someone work that hard, especially when they don’t feel well, and still treating guests with that level of kindness really touched me. Jayon truly went above and beyond, both in his work and in how he treated me. Employees like him deserve to be recognized. His kindness, attitude, and dedication made a big difference in my experience today.

I’m giving this theater **5 stars ONLY because of one outstanding employee** — a taller African American gentleman whose name started with a “J.” I didn’t catch his full name, but he absolutely deserves recognition. The theater was extremely hot My husband and I both felt it as soon as we walked in, and I work in HVAC along with my husband so I have a pretty good sense of temperatures and working conditions. It had to be above a reasonable level for employees and guests. The staff all looked uncomfortable, and that kind of heat doesn’t just make it unpleasant — it genuinely affects working conditions and can impact people’s health, focus, and mood. Even in that heat, this employee was bagging trash, sweating bullets, and still being incredibly kind and professional**. I complained to him about how hot it was and also told him that the manager on duty had been rude to me. Instead of blaming the heat or making excuses, he stayed calm, listened, and then did something that really impressed me: he **gave me a different outlook**. He assured me that the manager probably wasn’t trying to be rude and told me she really does care about customers. The way he explained it actually changed my perspective on the situation. He also offered to get a manager for me and you could tell he genuinely cared about how we were feeling as customers, even while he was clearly uncomfortable himself. Under those conditions, it would have been easy for him to be short or frustrated, but he was nothing but respectful, empathetic, and thoughtful. In my opinion, that young guy is the kind of employee any company should be proud of. I truly hope management reads this and recognizes him, because he is the only reason this review is 5 stars instead of 1.
