As an independent filmmaker, having the support of Northwest Film Forum has meant more than I can express. Their team has been incredibly communicative, responsive, and genuinely invested in helping my project succeed. The resources, guidance, and encouragement they’ve provided played a major role in bringing my vision to life and preparing it to share with the world. Usually I would not rate an arts venue on the conduct of its attendees, but NWFF has a ongoing standard of starting screenings late when the audience hasn't arrived on time. Other problems include late arrivals commonly using the flashlight on their phones to find their seats during the movie. There's no staff on hand to curb such behavior, leaving it to the attendees to do so. It's also the case that people will chat with their friends during films and do performative exclamations and vocal reactions during movies. There's no on-screen rules of conduct describing a prohibition of this spectrum of behavior or phone use. Subsequently, all of these are more common at this cinema than other independents around town.

This is far and away the coolest theater in town. You walk in, and immediately you’re in a 70s-style living room lobby. I unironically just hang out in the lobby sometimes. This is the place to see what Seattle filmmakers are up to, as well as get resources for your next project. They run great film festivals, full of hidden gems you can’t see anywhere else. This is where Seattle culture happens.
